Beach Monitoring At Seascape

11/3/2018

A meeting of the Seascape Association board was held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 1:00 pm to discuss security at the Seascape beaches. The members present were Tim Gallagher, John Honey and Ellen Clark at Tim’s home.  The members who participated by conference call were John Mannix, John Biegel, and Russ Hazelton. Tim called the meeting to order after confirming a quorum of six members.

The board decided to do the following for the 2019 beach season:

Security will be set up on weekends at both beaches from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

College age students will be hired to maintain the security for two, three hour shifts, 9:00-12:00 and 12:00-3:00 at $15.00 per hour.  At six hours per day at both beaches for two weekend days for 10 weeks, the cost for security will be $3600. ($15 x 6 x 2 x 2 x 10 =$3600.)

Each household will be provided with one Seascape beach identification tag that is waterproof, on a lanyard, which can easily be attached to a beach chair or a beach bag, etc.  The hired college students will sit at the security stations at both beaches to check everyone and their guests entering the beaches by acknowledging possession of a Seascape beach tag.  If a household needs a second tag for the ability to go to both beaches at the same time, the second tag will be provided upon request. A fee of $5 will be required for replacement tags. All renters must show the household tag for beach access.

A sign will be posted at the A beach parking lot stating that unauthorized vehicles will be towed.  A similar sign is already on B beach.

The board will encourage association members during weekdays to ask beach goers to show their tags or leave the beach.

Regarding the night security, the board decided to change the night security from three nights per week to two nights per week, weekends only. To start the summer season off, security will be provided for at least three nights on the weeks of Memorial Day and July 4th.  The change to two weekend nights only will be monitored and subject to adjustment, if there is unauthorized use or trespassing on the beaches during the weeknights.
