Spring 2026 Seascape Association - President’s Letter

             May 28, 2026

Dear Seascape Association Members,

I am excited about our summer season in Seascape. The weather is slowly warming up and before we know it schools will be out and the neighborhood will be a buzz. This letter summarizes activities completed and planned since my last letter to you last fall.

2026 Annual Meeting: The annual Seascape Association meeting will be held on Saturday June 27th at my home, 18 Highcrest Rd. at 9AM. Please bring a chair to sit on. I will distribute an agenda and the proposed 2027 budget prior to this meeting. If it rains we will hold the meeting in my garage. Your attendance is important.

Committee Updates:

  1. Finance and Budgets – Marianne Beardsley, Treasurer:

2026 dues invoices were distributed in February of 2026. To date we have 97 dues paying members out of a budget of 110. We continue to follow up on members, some of whom have not yet arrived on Cape. For the calendar year 2026 expenses appear to be running about as expected, we will have more information at the annual meeting. During our April Board meeting we developed and review a proposed budget for 2027 and approved holding annual dues at the same level as 2026, $800.

  1. Oyster Farms

As shared with the Association in earlier emails. The Board and several members of Seascape continue to be concerned about the proposed Oyster Farms off our shoreline (located between A and B Beach), about 600 feet offshore. We remain in contact with our neighbors in Rands Canal and Megansett to compare notes and actions they are taking to push back on the Town of Falmouth. We do plan to meet with a few Town representatives on the evening of June 4th at 7pm in the Fiddler’s Cove Club House to share our negative views towards the oyster farms Unfortunately, we have not found any solid legal basis for prohibiting the oyster farms currently approved by the town. However, we continue to look for angles.

  1. Beaches – Bill O’Brien, Chairperson:

  1. Bill reported that he is working with our contractor to replace the snow fences on B Beach, which are in a poor situation. Bill estimated the cost to replace the existing fencing with new could be $5,500. The Board agreed to authorize this repair. Bill will refine the actual cost with contractor. Bill is looking into purchasing signs that say Beach Monitors, for display on each beach, so anyone passing by would be aware that we have monitors, and dissuade nonmembers.

  1. Roads – Michael Shea, Chairperson:

Michael had our contractor clean all our Seascape catch basins. He also initiated the first steps for an engineering study of the drainage issues on Seascape Ln. This phase will be limited to reviewing design history, if any, and/or records of same that Falmouth may have.

  1. Docks and Ramp – Rob Hardy, Chairperson:

Rob reported that additional work needed on the stationary dock, including new handrails and new/reinforced yolk under the decking. The last estimate from Ben Carson, the contractor, for this work was approximately $8,000. The Board agreed we would present this expense for approval at the June annual meeting and target work completion in the fall. This would conclude all necessary repair work needed for the dock.

  1. Tennis – Jane Shea, Chairperson:

Jane reported that the tennis and pickle ball nets are installed. She is also exploring apps that could be used for electronic court time signups. Until this app is in place she will continue to have the sign-up book available in the mailbox attached to the fence near the court entrance. During our recent Board and Committee meeting we discussed the dirty appearance of the courts and the conditions of the courts. Some of the previously repaired cracks are showing loss of fill or new cracks. Discussion related to longer term tennis court refurbishment or replacement occurred. We agreed this would be a project for Jane and the Treasurer to explore in 2026.

  1. Hospitality – Erin DiMella:

Erin is working on several hospitality events for this summer. Ideas include some events previously held and some new ideas. Anyone who wishes to help with these should reach out to Erin. Events planned for the summer of 2026 include:

  • June 20th Summer Kick Off Party on A Beach

  • 4th of July Parade with Firetruck

  • August 15th End of Summer Cocktail Party on B Beach

  • She is also developing a new logo for clothing.

  • Anticipated/Potential additional events:

    • Pickle Ball

    • Black Friday Turkey Ball

    • Host a Seascape event with the WHYC

    • Children Art Show

    • Beach Olympics

  1. Nominations for Officers and Directors – Jack O’Connor:

Jack leads our Nomination Committee and will present a slate of Board members for your vote at the annual meeting in June. If anyone wishes to be considered for a Board or Committee role please reach out to Jack.

  1. Other Topics:

  1. Security: We continued to have weekend security through the community on Friday and Saturday nights, including some Holidays during the summer season. The Board believes this is helpful in preventing damage to our beaches and property. We had no significant incidents during the summer of 2025. The security monitor is shared with New Silver Beach and so are the costs.

  1. Landscaping: As we all know this winter has been particularly snowy and hard on our trees and plantings around Seascape. We ask all property owners to look after any trees or tree limbs that have been damaged this winter on your property and to manage their removal. Warren Fish has reached out to a tree contractor who can help if you need a reference.

  1. Seascape Website: The Association does have a website; however, we do not have a volunteer to maintain and care for the site. We try to update it as best we can, however, you will see certain menu items are outdated. If any of you are skilled at website development or maintenance and wish to help please reach me or Joan Boyer. Throughout this letter I mention that you can reach out to various Board or Committee members, if you are not aware our phone numbers are available on the Seascape website www.seascapeassociation.org under the “Contact” menu item..
